Description

I came across a brief mention of Ceres passing over M100 this week, and it just happened to fall in the gap between the trees in my backyard. Oddly, Stellarium showed Ceres well separated from the galaxy and I thought I missed the transit and might have trouble finding the asteroid. Nope. A test shot looked like a bright object in M100, and I ran back inside to check for supernova reports. That was Ceres, and MUCH brighter than I expected.

I manually stitched this animation together from still frames in Photoshop, so it's a little jittery, but interesting to see an asteroid moving through space over 112 minutes.
